Quantitative
Analysis based on statistical or mathematical models, often contrasted with traditional fundamental (research-driven) analysis.
Quanto Option
An instrument which has an underlying denominated in one currency, but makes payment in another currency, based on a specific exchange rate. For example, a quanto might be structured as a call option on the FTSE 100. The FTSE 100 is denominated in pounds sterling, but the call option might be structured to make payment in US dollars at a specified exchange rate of 1.5 dollars per pound.
Quartile ranking
Categorises funds within a sector into four equal bands based on their performance over a specified period. The top or first quartile contains the top 25% of funds, through to the bottom or fourth quartile containing the bottom 25% of funds.
Quoted price
Price at which the last sale and purchase of a particular share or commodity took place.
