Equity funds
These funds cover the major stock markets of the developed and developing world, including London, Frankfurt, New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Australia, Brazil, China and South East Asia. They're an ideal vehicle if you don’t want to manage your own stock market investments directly and want easy diversification across your portfolio.
Equity funds make up the vast majority of the investible fund universe and are the most numerous and diverse in range. Not surprisingly, there's one to suit almost every goal and option imaginable - from the broad market exposure gained from global funds, to the specialist or niche exposure of a small cap US or high-tech FTSE fund.
These funds are available in a range of structures as
- Unit trusts
- Luxembourg SICAVs
- Open ended investment companies (OEICs)
...and in different domiciles, such as UK, Dublin, Luxembourg, Channel Islands and others. These investments are generally only suitable for medium to long term investment, say, at least five years.
