Foreign exchange (FX)
Barclays provides a specialist service that offers you tailored foreign exchange solutions. Your Treasury Manager works closely with your Relationship Manager to deliver a superior service that's specifically tailored to your company's needs.
We offer a diverse range of FX products, including:
-
Spot exchange
Exchange currency against another at an agreed rate for settlement two working days later. -
Forward exchange contract
Reduce your exchange risk by buying or selling a specific amount of foreign currency, at a specified rate, for settlement at an agreed date. Barclays offers forward exchange contracts for any amount from £3,000 or the currency equivalent in more than 40 currencies, for periods of up to several years. -
Option dated forward exchange contract
Unlike a normal forward exchange, in which you can only complete the deal on the day the contract expires, an option dated forward contract gives you the flexibility to deal over a period of up to three months before maturity, giving you the potential to reduce your exchange risk even more.
Your capital is at risk when entering these transactions.
Barclays offers contracts in many major currencies with a maximum end maturity date of 12 months, with option periods of up to three months. In this case, ‘option' refers to the time period in which you can complete the contract, rather than whether or not you can choose to do so, because you are obliged to complete an agreed contract at or prior to maturity.
Currency options
Options allow you to exchange currency on a given date, at an agreed rate or ‘strike price', without obliging you to do so. They protect your business against adverse exchange rate movements while simultaneously allowing you to benefit from movements in your favour.
We offer:
Options with a premium payable at the outset which gives you the right, but not the obligation, to deal, or Zero premium options which guarantee downside protection while limiting any upside potential
