Q1: How is Barclays Wealth linked to Barclays Bank PLC?

Barclays Wealth is the wealth management division of Barclays and operates through Barclays Bank PLC and its subsidiaries. Barclays Wealth works closely with other business units from across the Barclays Group – including retail and commercial banking in the UK and overseas – to help individuals and companies build and manage their wealth.

Because of this, we are able to offer products and services that can help you manage all aspects of your wealth – such as stockbroking, offshore banking, asset management, financial planning, private banking, and much more.

Q2: How long has Barclays Wealth been in operation?

Barclays Wealth was launched in October 2006. However, the individual business areas that make up our wealth management division – including Private Banking and Barclays Stockbrokers – have been in operation for many years as part of the wider Barclays Group.

Q3: Do I need to be an existing Barclays Bank customer to use Barclays Wealth products or services?

No. As long as you meet the eligibility criteria that may apply to specific products and services, you can bank with Barclays Wealth.

Q4: What is your environmental policy?

We are aware that, as a global financial services organisation, we have a significant impact on the environment. We take this issue seriously and our strategy for reducing this impact is integral to the way we conduct our business.

We aim to:

1. Reduce our impact in the environment by:

  • Using energy and fuel more efficiently to reduce our emissions
  • Reducing our use of resources such as water and paper
  • Improving waste management through reduction, reuse and recycling

2. Implement an environmental management system in key operations worldwide.

3. Manage the environmental risk associated with our activities. This means ensuring that environmental risk is managed in business lending and the supply chain decisions worldwide.

4. Be one of the leaders in environmental responsibility.

We have set five year targets to help measure our performance. Barclays is ranked in the platinum band of the Business in the Community Environment Index 2006.

If you would like to know more about our environmental policy, please contact us.

Q5: What is your position on corporate social responsibility?

We are committed to sustainable and responsible banking. Through our Corporate Responsibility programme, we are committed to:

• Addressing financial exclusion in both developing and developed countries, including the UK
• Reducing our impact on the environment and tackling climate change
• Investing in and supporting local communities
• Encouraging and supporting diversity in our workforce
• Acting fairly, ethically and with integrity in everything that we do

Visit the Barclays Corporate Responsibility site to find out more.

Q6: Has Barclays Wealth won any awards for its products or services?

We have designed all of our banking and investment solutions to match different financial requirements and personal circumstances. If you or your company are not eligible for a specific product or service, it’s likely to be because there are others from across the Barclays Group that would be more appropriate for your needs.

In addition, not all of our products and services can be offered in every country due to local regulations.

If you think you may not be eligible for a particular product or service offered by Barclays Wealth, please contact us. If appropriate, we will be happy to put you in touch with other members of the Barclays Group who may be able to help you.

Q16: Is there a minimum investment required to use Barclays Wealth services?

In some cases, there is, but this varies across different products and services. Where a minimum requirement applies, we will always endeavour to make this clear to you. If in doubt, please feel free to contact us for more information.

Q17: Do you offer accounts or services for international students?

Yes, if you are coming to the UK to study from overseas. Take a look at our international student solutions or contact us for more information.

Q18: Why am I being asked to quote IBAN or SWIFTBIC codes when making a transaction?

International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs) have been introduced to standardise the identification of bank accounts around the world. It does not replace your existing bank sort code and account number(s). To find out what your IBAN is, look on your paper statement – it usually sits near your name and address along with the SWIFT code.

You may be asked to quote a SWIFT code when, for example, you are receiving money from abroad. For Barclays UK this is BARCGB22.

Due to new regulations, IBAN and SWIFTBIC are now required on all international payments to and from Europe. Learn more about IBAN and SWIFTBIC codes.

Q19: How do I bank online as an international corporate / intermediary client?

We offer an easy-to-use internet banking system called International Corporate e-Banking (ICeB).

If you have a query about using ICeB, see the section below. If you can’t find the answer that you’re looking for, please contact us.

Q5: What happens if I lose my Smartcard?

For security reasons, please call the helpdesk as soon as possible to cancel the lost card and request a replacement. You should receive your replacement card within five working days.

For security reasons, Smartcards and passcodes should not be kept together, and passcodes should never be written down.

Q6: Why is the passcode sent to the user’s home address and not to the business address?

This is for security reasons. The Smartcard and passcode need to be kept separate as together they allow access to the user's accounts. As the Smartcard is sent to the business address, the passcode is sent to the user's home address.

Q7: What happens if I input my passcode incorrectly?

You have five attempts to input the correct passcode. After five incorrect entries the Smartcard is invalidated. Please then contact the helpdesk and ask them to send you a new card. This should arrive within five days.

Q8: When is the ICeB system available?

The ICeB system is available around the clock, seven days a week. However, some of the services delivered through ICeB rely on Barclays core banking systems being available.

Services that are available at all times are:

  • System administration
  • Balance and transactional reporting on sterling accounts
  • Payment creation and approval within system
  • Management information

Services with limited availability:

  • Balance and transactional reporting on currency accounts, money market transactions and foreign exchange deal information. Available Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm UK time.
  • Payment execution and confirmation through system. Available Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm UK time.

Q9: Can the system be used remotely?

Provided that a user has their Smartcard, they can access ICeB from any PC that has a Smartcard reader and the ICeB software.

Q10: What’s the difference between System Administration and Client Administration?

System Administrators manage ICeB. They oversee access to accounts and have the authority to create Client Administrators.

Client Administrators manage the accounts within ICeB according to the level of access assigned by the System Administrator. Client Administrator tasks may include viewing balances, transactional information and making payments.

Q11: How do I monitor user activity on ICeB?

ICeB provides an activity log that contains all User actions that affect the system’s data, including payment processing, logons, logoffs and management information downloads. Client Administrators can only see their own activity log, while System Administrators can see all activity logs.
