Useful tips
To assist you during the Recruitment and Selection process, we have provided you with some useful tips to ensure you are fully informed before submitting your application.
The application process
We understand that it may have been a long time since you've applied online for a role, if at all. The process is very straight-forward and an effective way for us to capture your details. Simply register, attach your CV and begin completing the application form.
Online numerical and verbal reasoning test
If you have not experienced taking these types of tests before, we advise you to become familiar with the test format and types of questions you'll be asked. To access some practice tests visit www.maptq.com using the password “Embark”.
Business questions
As part of the application form, you will be required to answer the following questions:
- Why do you think a career in the Wealth Management industry is suitable for you?
- What do you think are the major issues or concerns facing our clients currently?
- Which of your current skills set do you consider to be the most transferable into the Wealth Management industry and specifically into the role of a Private Banker?
- After the completion of your initial training programme, what will be your approach in developing your client book?
In this section you will have the opportunity to articulate your reasons why you are interested in a career in Wealth Management. We recommend that you research your answers thoroughly. You should also familiarise yourself with the Wealth Management industry by reading financial press, visiting our website or speaking to people who work in the industry.
Interviews
Even after years of experience working in industry, it's not everyday you're sitting on the other side of the table being interviewed, and we understand that it can be quite daunting. However, it's important to remember that the reason you've been invited to an interview is that you've met our initial criteria and we’d like to get to know you better. You'll need to articulate how the skills you've attained in your previous career(s) can be transferred into the role of a Private Banker and explain your motivation for wanting to work for Barclays.
Please remember that the interview is a two-way process - it's as much an opportunity for you to find more about us as it is for us to find out about you. We want you to relax and be yourself.
At the end of the interview you'll have the opportunity to ask us questions about the Programme, the role of a Private Banker and about any aspect of the business and the recruitment process.
Assessment Centres
An Assessment Centre allows us to assess your skills, abilities and motivation to launch your career in wealth management.
During the exercises you'll have the opportunity to demonstrate the many skills you're developed during your previous career(s) and articulate your reasons for embarking on a new career. But, it’s not only about your skills. We want to know if you’re passionate about working for Barclays and are dedicated to a long-term career of becoming a Private Banker.
It is important to be yourself during the Assessment Centre. In a similar way to the interview, it’s a two-way process.
