09 August 2010, London

Douglas Lockhart, one of Scotland's most capped cricketers joins Barclays Wealth's Investment/Portfolio Management Team

One of Scotland's most capped cricketers and brightest investment managers is set to join Barclays Wealth in his hometown of Glasgow in August.  Douglas Lockhart will take to the crease as a key addition to Barclays Wealth's Investment / Portfolio Management Team this summer reporting to Alastair Mackenzie, Regional Investment Director, and working closely with Henry Peterkin.  As well as being eminently qualified for the role, he will be familiar to many as an international cricketer with the Scottish National team.

Douglas holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Durham and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Studies from Keble College, Oxford University. He also holds a Securities Institute Diploma:  Regulation and Compliance, Fund Management, Private Client Investment Advice and Management (Credit).

With ten years' experience in international banking, Douglas has worked for National Australia Bank, Tilney Investment Management and, latterly, spent four years as a Senior Investment Manager at Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management. Roles included developing equity strategy and having the primary responsibility for the investment management of over £100m of assets on a discretionary basis.

The 34-year old Oxford University blue, who is a right hand batsman and wicketkeeper, comes from a family of heavy hitters.  His sister Heather plays for the Scotland women's rugby team and is an Oxford blue in hockey, tennis and rugby while his mother Christine played hockey for Scotland and is a member of the Scotland and Great Britain Seniors tennis teams.  His father Brian dominates another sort of court as Sheriff Principal of South Strathclyde Dumfries and Galloway.  His wife Joanne Bonnar is a news reporter and presenter on STV News.

Mark Little, Managing Director, Barclays Wealth Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: "We are delighted to be welcoming such a team player to Barclays Wealth.  Douglas is one of the industry's brightest talents and brings with him a considerable amount of experience in portfolio management. His solid training in financial management combined with a clear understanding of the importance of client relationships is a perfect fit for Barclays Wealth. He's quite a catch, in more ways than one."

Barclays recently announced plans to double the size of its wealth and corporate businesses in Scotland by 2012.  As part of the growth strategy, Barclays Wealth has completed its move into the world class Aurora building that it shares with Barclays Corporate in Glasgow's Bothwell Street.

Barclays Wealth in Scotland reported a 30 per cent growth in assets over the last 12 months.  Already the UK's largest wealth manager, Barclays Wealth also plans to double its Scottish business through investing in further talent and continuing to invest in its business to offer clients a more holistic solution to their wealth management needs.  More than 1,700 Barclays Wealth UK operational staff are located in Scotland - predominantly Glasgow - alongside 100 private bankers and investment managers.
