On the day that Walpole celebrates the best in British luxury, sponsors Barclays Wealth reveal findings from a new report which highlights that wealthy individuals plan to make greater use of luxury services such as private jets, butlers and personal shoppers.

The awards recognise the best in creative design and culture in the luxury industry and include an accolade for actor Daniel Craig – who became a British luxury icon as James Bond.
The Barclays Wealth report, to be published in early December, predicts a boom for the luxury services market. In particular, the use of private jets by the wealthy is set to increase significantly around the world with over a third of respondents in Spain (37 per cent), a quarter of respondents in US and Canada (23 per cent) and Italy (26 per cent) and one in ten in Asia (Singapore and Hong Kong) planning to fly privately as they prefer this to first-class services on airlines.
There is also a greater demand for personal shoppers, according to the findings. In the US and Canada, one in five (19 per cent) of respondents said they plan to invest in this luxury to make their lives more simple. A quarter of wealthy North Americans (23 per cent) also want access to a personal chauffeur and concierge who can book flights and hotels, as they strive to save time.
Surprisingly, the UK’s wealthy are least likely to employ a butler (25 per cent) despite it being considered a quintessentially English service. This is set to change as three-quarters of those questioned in the UK plan to hire a butler in the future. The survey reveals that butlers are in greater use elsewhere in the world and are most popular in Italy (79 per cent) and Portugal (76 per cent).
Mark Kibblewhite, Managing Director and Head of Barclays Wealth’s UK Private Bank, will present an Award of Excellence to Hollywood actor Daniel Craig at the Walpole ceremony. He said: “The Walpole awards, which highlight the innovation and excellence within the luxury sector, along with our own research, prove that the appetite for luxury goods remains strong. Our compelling statistics show the increased demand for high-end services. The market outlook is optimistic for the British luxury industry.”
